VIBRO Bi Metallic Flanges – Technical Data Sheet

VIBRO Bi‑Metallic Flanges (also known as Composite Flanges, Spinning Flanges, or Quick‑Action Flanges) are engineered for joining copper tubes or brass pipes to steel piping systems while preventing galvanic corrosion and stray‑current deterioration. The design incorporates a non‑conductive sleeve that electrically isolates the dissimilar metals, ensuring long‑term system integrity in water, gas, and sanitary installations.

Key Specifications

VIBRO Bi‑Metallic Flanges (also known as Composite Flanges, Spinning Flanges, or Quick‑Action Flanges) are engineered for joining copper tubes or brass pipes to steel piping systems while preventing galvanic corrosion and stray‑current deterioration.

Product Details

Flange Assembly

A VIBRO Bi‑Metallic Flange consists of three precision‑manufactured components:

  • Backing Flange: Carbon Steel ASTM A105, fully machined and epoxy‑coated (Green RAL 6011) for corrosion resistance. Standard rating: PN16 Optional ratings: PN25, ANSI 150, ANSI 300
  • Insert: Brass C37700, suitable for brazing to copper tube in accordance with BS EN 1057. Optional configuration: Female BSPT/NPT threaded insert.
  • Insulating Sleeve: ABS thermoplastic sleeve separating the steel flange and brass insert, preventing electrical continuity and galvanic action.

Operating Limits

  • Maximum Working Pressure: 16 bar (232 psi)
  • Maximum Working Temperature: 120°C (240°F)

Finishes

  • Outer Flange: Fully machined, epoxy‑coated (RAL 6011) for enhanced corrosion protection.
  • Inner Insert: Fully machined with tube stop for accurate tube positioning.

Bolting Requirements

Bolting materials comply with the following standards:

  • Studs: BS 4439 Grade 4.8
  • Hex Bolts: BS 3692 or BS 4190 Grade 4.6
  • Stud Bolts: BS 4882 Carbon Steel
  • Nuts: BS 3692 / BS 4190 Grade 4 or BS 4882 Grade 2H/M (as applicable)

Gasket Selection

Inside‑bolt gaskets must be used. Gasket material should be selected based on fluid compatibility, operating temperature, and pressure conditions.

Design Features

  • Composite three‑piece construction ensures electrical isolation between steel and copper/brass components.
  • ABS insulating sleeve prevents stray‑current grounding and galvanic corrosion.
  • Epoxy‑coated carbon‑steel backing flange provides long‑term corrosion resistance.
  • Brass insert allows reliable brazing to copper tubes or connection to threaded systems.
  • Fully machined surfaces ensure precise alignment and leak‑free assembly.

VIBRO Bi‑Metallic Flanges are suitable for:

  • Potable and non‑potable water systems
  • Gas distribution networks
  • Sanitary and plumbing installations
  • HVAC systems (heating, cooling, chilled water)
  • Industrial fluid circuits using mineral or vegetable oils
  • Installations requiring copper‑to‑steel transitions
  • Gunmetal/brass inners must be silver‑brazed to copper or copper‑alloy tubes in accordance with the relevant application standard.
  • Ensure correct gasket selection and proper bolt tightening sequence to maintain sealing integrity.
  • Use only approved brazing materials compatible with brass and copper.

When specifying VIBRO Bi‑Metallic Flanges, provide:

  1. Nominal size of copper tube or pipe
  2. Flange rating (PN16, PN25, ANSI 150, ANSI 300)
  3. Insert type (brazing or threaded BSPT/NPT)
  4. Coating requirement (standard epoxy or special coatings if required)
  5. Any special configuration or project‑specific requirements
